Lake Creek Base Camp Host(s) Position

Our Lake Creek Camp Host(s) position is perfect for person or couple who enjoys the outdoors and wishes to spend the summer in a remote location meeting interesting people. This position requires an individual with a great deal of organizational and people experience, and who can provide the public with a variety of interpretive information on the area.  It is helpful to be an good cook as well. You must be a self-starter, well organized, motivated, with a sense of pride in the presentation and delivery of your end product.  You must be personable, a good communicator, and work well with others.  You must have a current first aid and CPR card.  Please go to our employment qualifications page to view additional information pertaining to the requirements for this position.

Job Duties Include:

  • Responsible for meeting and welcoming our guests, orienting them to our base camp, cleaning tent-cabin units and bath house.

  • Responsible for learning and teaching basic interpretive information regarding Steens Mountain including:

    • Tour hotspots

    • Natural history

    • Cultural history

    • Geology

  • Handle base camp organization and logistics.

  • Operate and perform moderate maintenance to mechanical equipment.  (i.e.-Pick-ups, trailers, lanterns, stoves, chainsaws, etc.)

  • Evaluate and make necessary repairs to equipment.

  • Responsible for overseeing and participating in meal preparation, delivery, and clean-up.

  • Responsible for human relations and the well-being of the entire group including:

    • Entertainment

    • Individual issues/concerns and participant satisfaction.

    • Assuring appropriate group dynamics.

    • Assuring group safety.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

In summary, this is a position with responsibilities commensurate with experience. It is ideal for those who would love to spend the summer in the aspen groves on the Steens.

Pay will be commensurate with experience, skills, and responsibility assumed.

  • Advanced Horsemanship Skills

  • Mechanical Skills
