JOSE
'JOE' ZORROZUA is remembered as a popular and friendly Steens sheep
man. He was born in Arrieta, Spain on December 31, 1897 and
came to the United States in 1914 as a single man on the SS La Lorraine.
He later married. When 41 years old he applied for American
citizenship on January 27, 1939 in Burns, Oregon. He was partners
in business with the prominent sheep man Frank Kueny of Andrews, Oregon
for many years. This carving example is unique being one of
the few names carved both horizontally and vertically on the tree
trunk. Joe Zorrozua died in 1976.
