Lake Creek Base Camp offers a unique experience with outstanding accommodations set in the tranquil atmosphere of Lake Creek Canyon's aspen groves on Steens Mountain in southeast Oregon. At 7000' elevation, SMP's Base Camp is your perfect year 'round retreat. Secluded, yet conveniently located, in the heart of the Steens where you want to be and what you came for. Your experience with SMP is all inclusive from the afternoon you arrive until you depart with comfortable tent-cabin accommodations including queen size bed, queen size futon, wood stove, linens and porch, helpful and friendly camp staff, gourmet meals, and interpretive information provided. The Base Camp is centrally located on SMP's 320 acres with both Lake Creek and Fish Creek running through the property. There are many on site opportunities for hiking, bird watching, star gazing, or just soaking up the solitude and scenery.

If our base camp activities are not enough to quench your thirst for adventure, join in on one, or a combination, of SMP's daily outbound adventures and educational excursions. These programs range from two hours to multiple day trips including recreational activities such as hiking, horseback riding, pack trips, fishing, interpretive and educational tours. Take advantage of our highly trained and knowledgeable staff for unsurpassed recreational activities or our educational staff who have a wealth of interpretive and educational information regarding Steens Mountain.  Dates are available throughout the season. Lake Creek Base Camp is perfect for group retreats, special events, corporate team building workshops, college, and institutional programs.   • Tent-cabin sleeping up to 4 people with queen size bed, queen size futon, cozy wood stove, and covered private lounge deck

  • This package is designed for those groups who do not want to utilize our tent-cabins, but would like to use the rest of our facilities.
